Artist Commissions

Our commissions programme includes mentoring with Perrier Award-winning Stuart Silver and peer sharing days. Each year, artists work with us over a 3-4 month period to develop their new work, before showcasing it to new audiences on the Phrased & Confused stage at the Summer Sundae Weekender.

“The support that we’ve had along the process has been brilliant with actually developing the piece.” Hannah Silva

This year, our commissioned artists are Laura Dockrill, Ben Mellor, Shane Solanki and Yusra Warsama, each of whom is working on a piece themed around protest words and song. Find out more about the commissions and other Phrased & Confused action at Summer Sundae here.

Artists we’ve commissioned in the past include: Jean Binta Breeze, Andy Craven Griffiths, Aoife Mannix & Janie Armour, Mark Grist & MC Mixy, Hanna Silva, Kate Tempest and Sound of Rum, Joshua Idehen/Pencil String Horn Project and Sifundo and Jamal Msebele.

“It was a really supportive process with Phrased and Confused. It’s been really, really amazing experience where we’ve been able to concentrate on being performers.”  – Sifundo Msebele

It’s really great to see work originally conceived of under the Phrased & Confused banner take off, and see the Phrased & Confused commissions alumni go from strength to strength. If you’ve not seen them in action, you really should!
