Want to Put on Your own Live Literature Events?

Phrased & Confused can give you the chance to do just that.

Our research during Phrased & Confused 2004 demonstrated a lack of producers/promoters with the skills and networks necessary to produce quality live literature events and tours. We wanted to do something about it so, as part of this year's tour, we a running a development programme that will support potential and emerging producers to learn new skills, give them opportunities to work with venues in their region, and expand their networks.

Through our development programme we will work with each tour venue to identify one producer with whom they will work during 2007. Exactly how that relationship works will be decided between that venue and that producer providing a real-life professional development opportunity for each chosen producer. As part of the professional development they will also be supported in submitting an Arts Council England 'Grants for the Arts' application to their regional office.

How Will the Development Programme Work?

On the afternoon immediately before each evening date of the tour we will host a seminar/networking event for regional live literature 'activists' (promoters, producers, editors, writers/performers etc.) at each tour venue. Following the seminars, potential producers interested in taking part in the development programme will submit their ideas for how they would like to work with that venue.

Following on from this date we will also be running a series of training sessions focussing on marketing and audience development, fundraising and sponsorship, financial management and event production and evaluation. These sessions will be open for application to any producer/promoter that attends the initial seminar.
